I bought a new Optimus Vega Stove in April 2015 while preparing for my 10-day hiking trip on the Isle of Skye.
During the last ten years, the stove was tested on two multi-day backpacking trips (Skye Trail, Trollheimen) and several day hiking trips in a variety of weather conditions (up to -3C) and elevations (1000m above sea level). I’ve cooked all sorts of meals from breakfasts to desserts, including baked goods.
I’ve used Optimus Vega Stove with different size pots, frying pans and even a portable oven, and I have to say that I was impressed by stability and reliability it provides.
On almost all of my outings, the Vega Stove performed very well. The only issue I’ve faced was a weak flame control on low simmering. For a gourmet backpacker, this function is extremely important, especially when I use the stove together with an Outback Oven.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the Optimus Vega Stove and think it’s one of the best backpacking stove I’ve ever worked with.
