Overview:
Efficient in low temperatures, the Kovea Spider Stove is a lightweight, compact, and affordable remote canister stove. Designed for four-season hiking and backpacking, it weighs just 6 ounces (170g) and fits neatly into a small carrying bag.
Its wide, foldable legs provide excellent stability, allowing you to use different pot sizes with ease. Precise flame control lets you adjust the heat from a gentle simmer to a rapid boil, which also helps conserve fuel. At around $55, it’s more budget-friendly than similar stoves like the Optimus Vega or MSR WindPro II, which cost between $90 and $115. If you’re looking for both performance and savings, the Spider is a solid choice.
First impression:
The moment I unboxed the Spider, I was impressed by its size. It’s incredibly compact—easily the smallest remote canister stove I’ve ever held. The inclusion of a Piezo igniter in the set was a pleasant surprise.
Field Performance:
I tested the Kovea Spider on several backpacking trips, including an adventure in Sarek National Park. Most of the time, I used it to boil water and rehydrate food. It performed exceptionally well and quickly became one of my favorite pieces of outdoor cooking gear.
Boiling time:
Boiling time depends on several factors, including air temperature, altitude, water temperature, cookware, and gas level. As a result, real-world performance can vary.
During testing, air temperatures ranged from 0°C to +8…+10°C, and water started at +3…+5°C. Under these conditions, the boiling times provided a realistic sense of the stove’s capabilities.
On average, the Kovea Spider boiled 500ml of water in 7 minutes 32 seconds using a thin, hard-anodized aluminum pot. The fastest boil time was 6 minutes 15 seconds, while the slowest was 8 minutes 45 seconds.
Surprisingly, during a 9-day hike, cooking for two people, we only used one 14 oz (450 g) Kovea gas canister. This efficiency makes the Spider an excellent choice for long trips.

Pros:
